The burial and funeral rites for the late Derby Akosua Denkyira Benaye who died in a terrible accident together with her friend, Lordina Fobih at Okponglo junction, Legon two weeks ago will be performed on Friday, 1st February. Derby Akosua Denkyira Benaye was a student of the University of Ghana resident in Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall and died in a fatal accident which occurred at about 1am two weeks ago when a garbage car run over a taxi cab she and her friend Lordina Fobih were in. The unfortunate incidence which became a subject for national discussion drew the attention of several stakeholders to the dangers the Madina-Accra stretch posed to commuters especially students of the University of Ghana. It would be recalled that about a week ago, a vehicle on that same stretch knocked down another student who reportedly lost his life on the spot. In a related development the mayor of Accra, together the Deputy Superintendent of the Police MTTU, MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon and some UG student leaders yesterday visited the Okponglo intersection to inspect the area to come up with short and long term solutions to the menace. Among the resolution after the inspection was the introduction of rubble strips unto the stretch as a short-term measure to prevent drivers from speeding.
