John Paintsil Admits To Difficult Cape Verde Match

Defender John Paintsil admits Ghana played its most difficult game at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations against Cape Verde on Saturday. A brace by midfielder Mubarak Wakaso sent the Black Stars through to the semi finals of the competition being staged in South Africa. Ghana however struggled to find their rhythm throughout the match played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth. This was due to the swiftness and sheer power displayed by the Cape Verdians on the day. Paintsil, playing in his fifth Nations Cup finals said the Blue Sharks brought the best out of the simile inexperienced Ghanaian team. It was a difficult game, playing against a team that are very tactically disciplined and also have a good coach, he told The way they were playing it was very difficult for us to penetrate especially through the middle. They are strong boys, very good in the air. All in all they were a good team and they gave us a real challenge today. Ghana now awaits its semi final opponent to emerge from the winner of Sundays quarter final match between Burkina Faso and Togo. The Black Stars are looking to end a 31-year wait for an African title this term in South Africa.
