History Repeats Itself As Ghana Clash With Mali For Bronze

History will repeat itself on Saturday as the senior national team of Ghana, Black Stars battle with the Eagles of Mali for bronze in the on-going African Cup of Nations for the second successive time in the history of AFCON. Excitingly, the two West African giants were paired again at the group stage this year. Just as in the 2012 edition of the AFCON, Ghana won the group match 1-0 courtesy of a Mubarak Wakaso goal from the spot. Last year in Equatorial Guinea, the Malians stood tall after beating Ghana 2-0 to clinch the bronze medal. In fact, the Black Stars had already beaten Mali by the same score line earlier in the Group stages. Ghana made history by becoming the first nation to score at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in South Africa, after all matches played on Saturday 20th January ended in goalless draw. Meanwhile, in a second Group B match played also at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, Mali became the first team to break the draw jinx, as they recorded the first win of the tournament.
