Demolishing Of Churches; Not A Nine Day Wonder-AMA

Dr. Simpson Anim Boateng, Director of Health at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has indicated that the demolishing of noise making churches which operates without a license is not going to be a nine day wonder. He alluded to the fact that the Assembly will continue to demolish churches irrespective of their sizes so far as they (churches) have decided to pay deaf ears to their several warnings and notices. The Assembly together with the police had earlier on demolished the Fruits of Life Ministry church building at Bubiashie. Speaking in an interview on Citi Eye Witness news with Shamima Muslim, Dr Simpson Boateng, said the measure was a necessary deterrent to churches that defy orders to "stop work and produce permit." According to him, the demolishing exercise is an activity the assembly has been embarking on for a very long time and is going to continue as far as some churches have decided to erect illegal structures. It is something we have been doing all the time. We are embarking on this exercise to rid the country of all these miscreants; those who are not law abiding. Some of these churches operate in residential areas without any permit and they are disturbing the people day and night. It is going to serve as a deterrent to others who are operating without a permit he opined. He denied allegations that they do not inform the churches before carrying out with the demolishing. According to him, before razing the building, they serve notices to the churches to evacuate and when it is not adhered to, we go ahead to demolish. We dont take anybody by surprise. We always inform the people before taking any action. We are professionals and we dont care about the size of the church; so far as it is not in conformity with the law, we will go ahead and do whatever we have to do. It is not going to be a nine-day wonder. We will go all round and make sure we achieve our objective he asserted.
