Dr Major Mustapha Ahmed (retired), Minister of State designate at the Presidency in-charge of Development Authorities was on Saturday honoured by �Friends of Dr Mustapha Ahmed�, an association formed by students of Opoku Ware Senior High School (SHS) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. The Association also launched the �Mustapha Ahmed Foundation� which aims at educating, sensitizing and providing philanthropist services to the vulnerable across the country. Mr Kwasi Prempeh, President of the Association, said the group had always appreciated Dr Ahmed's concern in their lives that had spurred them on to pursue greater heights. He said Dr Ahmed had been a model for the young men and women of the Association, who are growing up to take positions in the future and that he had always thought them one thing which was dignity and service to the nation in their hearts. Mr Prempeh said the meritorious service Dr Ahmed had rendered to mother Ghana as a retired Army Officer had earned him a Member of Parliament (MP), Deputy Minister at various Ministries and an envious portfolio at the Presidency of the Republic. Dr Ahmed, who is also the MP for Ayawaso North, said �I never expected this from the Association. I am humble with the hounour and grateful to the Association.� He said the group had developed a lot of passion for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which helped in contributing significantly in the campaign during the 2008 and 2012 elections. Dr Ahmed thanked them for their commitment and contribution to the development of his constituency and the nation at large and called on development partners, civil society organizations and philanthropists to support the Association and its objectives. Chief Imoro Baba-Issah, Chairman of the occasion and Public Relations Officer of the National Council of Zongo Chiefs said, it was important and appropriate to hounour the hard work of individuals and organisations. He said Dr Ahmed was the longest serving MP of the area and had brought a lot of development, adding �We need to honour him for his work and commitment towards the development of the area.� Chief Baba-Issah also called on Muslims and people in the Zongo Community to conduct research on issues of national interest before commenting or criticizing. The Foundation was launched by Dr Captain Nana Yaw Agyiri of the 37 Military Hospital and a member of the Association. Mr Charles Oti Prempeh, District Chief Executive for Amansia West in the Ashanti Region donated GHc5000.00 as seed capital for the Foundation. The Association was formed in 2000 by students of Oppoku Ware SHS and later saw people from other schools across the country joining. Today membership include architects, doctors, pharmacists and other professionals.
