NPPs Plot To Boycott The State Of Nation Address Is A Blessing...There Would Be "Decency" In The House

The NPPs alleged plan to boycott President John Mahamas State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 21, has been greeted with cheers, as the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, has coined the stratagem a blessing in disguise for the nation as a whole. Kwesi Pratt observed on Metro TVs "Good Morning Ghana" programme that President Mahama will have the leeway to express himself without having to bother his head about detractors on the floor of parliament. He also noted that the NPPs boycott wouldnt take away the needed shine from the national event but will rather create the needed serene atmosphere the address deserves. What would they add if they are in parliament? We have seen them in parliament when similar addresses have been made, we have seen them with red cards and we have seen them make so much noise; you cant even hear what is going on. "If they dont go tomorrow, it would be possible for people to hear what the president is presenting and am quite sure that many television viewers would be so happy that they are not there...so that it would add decency, he said. The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, confirmed on Kumasi-based Hello FM that, the party will not be attending the function. The NPP is challenging the legitimacy of President Mahama, and for that matter, have decided not to be part of the State of The Nation Address. Kwesi Pratt posited that since every government would want to encounter the least opposition as possible in their administration, the NPPs boycott should serve as the grounds to prepare government functionaries to operate smoothly.
