The Suhum Police have arrested the 35-year-old farmer who beheaded his wife at Okpe near Kuano-Dome in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region on Tuesday. David Osae, whose name was initially given by the police as Daniel Osae, was smoked out of his hideout by the townsfolk yesterday and handed over to the police. Osae confirmed to the police that he indeed killed the wife, Florence Ohenewaa, 28, with whom he had three children aged between two and seven years and was prepared for the consequences. The Suhum Police said there had been some misunderstanding in the couples marriage, with the wife threatening to divorce Osae. The Suhum District Police Commander, DSP Anane Appiah, said David Osae was arrested on Monday after a report was made against him by relatives of Ohenewaa that he had set her personal effects on fire. According to him, after his arrest and while being processed for court, the wife came begging that he should be released because he was the breadwinner of the family and so the police bonded him to be of good behaviour and later released him. According to the commander, when they went back, Ohenewaa insisted that she was no more interested in the marriage because of her husbands behaviour. She therefore left her matrimonial home at Okpe and moved to Kuano, a few kilometers from Okpe. According to him, the wife, in the company of her 11-year-old sister, went to Okpe the following day to collect some plastic buckets and pans from her matrimonial home. When they got there, David begged Ohenewaa to come back but she refused. The suspect was said to have tried to force her to stay but she resisted and while leaving with her things, the husband followed her with a machete and chopped off her head. The younger sister of Florence Ohenewaa, who saw her sisters head being chopped off, ran away whilst screaming. She later reported the incident to her family. The body of Ohenewaa has been deposited at the morgue of the Suhum Government Hospital. The police said David Osae would be put before court today on a provisional charge of murder.
