Driver, Labourer Charged For Robbery

Two accused persons, who snatched a Toyota Corolla taxi valued at GH₵18,000 from its driver at knife point at Adenta Rowe were on Friday arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court. The two accused persons, Gideon Fianko, a driver and Prince Osei Ansah, a labourer were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery. The two pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit crime but however pleaded culpable to robbery. Nonetheless, the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri deferred the sentence of the two accused persons to Monday, February 25, 2013. The Prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Reynolds Agyemang said the complainant in the case is the driver of the Toyota corolla taxi with registration N0.GB 2066-12, while the two accused persons are Gideon Fianko, a driver and Prince Osei Ansah, a labourer. He said on February 19, 2013 around 12:00 noon the two accused persons hired the services of the complainant to take them from the Madina Zongo Junction to Adenta barrier for GH₵5.00. He said on reaching the barrier, the accused persons asked the driver to take them to a popular place at Adenta called Rowe. DSP Agyemang said on the way, Prince Osei Ansah, who was sitting behind the complainant (driver), pulled a knife and asked the driver to stop. He said Gideon Fianko, who was then sitting beside the driver in the front seat pulled the complainant out of the car and they drove off. He said the accused persons drove the car from Adenta towards Koforidua, however luck run out on them upon reaching the Akenteng barrier the Police on duty arrested them. DSP Agyemang said the accused persons in their caution statement admitted the offence and were according charged with the offence.
