Why Now Is A Good Time To Be An MP/Minister In The Mahama Govt

Now is a good time to be a Member of Parliament/minister of state in the Mahama government, because you would be smiling all the way to the bank! On top the GH50,000.00 that has already landed in the bank account of all members of parliament for the purposes of securing fitting accommodation for themselves, the daily Searchlight newspaper can reliably state that all such MPs who have had the good luck of being nominated/appointed as Ministers of State have also been fully fitted with state bungalows! Even more interesting, this newspaper has been reliably informed that all is almost set for the state to blow even more state cash on renovating these bungalows for our honourable social democrats! When the NDC took over the governance of the state in January 2009 they decided to offer Members of Parliament (MPs) at that time a whooping GH30,000.00 for renting of an apartment for accommodation for the four years. Interestingly Members of Parliament who were fortunate to be appointed as Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State were also given this same amount for the same purpose notwithstanding the fact that they had been given official accommodation residence by the state. Some of these Ministers and Deputy Ministers are still occupying such government bungalows. In addition to that, most of the Members of Parliament who have retained their seats and have been appointed Ministers have kept their cool while enjoying the newly-approved GH50,000.00 for the newly-elected Members of the 6th Parliament under the 4th Republic. Whilst this is happening, majority of the electorates are still wallowing in adverse poverty alongside the immense hardships that have been made possible by frequent power outages, increase in Petroleum prices, the rationing of water and unavailability of gas. In the eyes of all these glaring disasters, the government of the day still finds it prudent to make its high ranking people rich. Additional information intercepted by the Daily Searchlight has it that the state is about to spend not less that GH200,000.00 (2 billion old Cedis) each on the renovation of the Ministerial bungalows to befit their statuses as Ministers of the extravagant loving John Dramani Mahama-led NDC administration. Even as the President keeps crying about government spending more money on the paying of salaries of government workers, he forgets that he seems to be forgetting the fact that some of these things kill the state more than we can ever imagine. Notable of among these ministers is the Minister for Foreign Affairs; Hannah Serwah Tetteh and Inusa Fuseini of the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry. Others include Mr. Benjamin Kunbuor; Minister of charge of Government Business in Parliament, Mr. Fifi Kwetey, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Rashid Pelpuo, Emmanuel Kofi Buah and the three wise men (Alban Bagbin, E.T. Mensah and Cletus Avoka) just to mention few. This action of hypocrisy on the part of these ministers is consistently raising public outcry. They have therefore questioned the integrity of members of the ruling government when they claim to be working and caring for the people of Ghana.
