Master Kwabena Agyare wins 2013 the Young Debaters students competition

Master Kwabena Agyare, a student of Tema International School on Friday won the 2013 �The Young Debaters� competition to represent Ghana at the 32nd International Public Speaking Competition in the United Kingdom. Master Jude Kwegyir-Aggrey of Chemu Senior High School, Tema came second while Ms Lesley Donna Opare-Addo took the third position. They received textbooks and some products of Vodafone as their prizes. The programme was on the theme: �A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand� and was sponsored by the British Council, Voltic Ghana Limited, Coca Cola Company and Vodafone. The three came victorious from Accra, Tema and Eastern regional finalists of 12 Senior High Schools (SHSs) namely, Ghanata, Alpha Beta Christian College, St Thomas Aquinas, O�Reilly, Armed Forces, Labone, Tema, SOS HGIC and St Roses. Master Agyare was the fourth student to win the competition since its inception in 2010 in Ghana and was won by Ms Phoeba Amoako, Aburi Girls (2010), followed by Master Caleb Kudah, O�Reilly (2011) and Ms Ama Essuman, Wesley Girls (2012). The Young Debaters (TYD) competition is organised yearly by the Young Educators Foundation, a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) to promote literacy by allowing students to develop critical thinking and communication skills. It also gives Ghanaian students a chance to meet and form friendships with students from other countries. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Master Agyare thanked God for guiding him to successfully win the competition and also expressed gratitude to his school authorities and his coach. He said his victory was all through serious learning and hard work and called on his colleague students and competitors to put in their maximum by taking their lessons seriously and be dedicated to whatever they do at school. He thanked the organisers of the programme, the Young Educators Foundation and gave the assurance that he would strive hard to win the international competition this time round for Ghana while asking Ghanaians to support him in prayers.
