ECG Must be Sued For Contract Violation And Inefficiency

Tough-talking Deputy Director of Communications of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah, wants utility provider, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to be dragged to court as being done in some developed nations for what he terms as irrational poor services to consumers. According to Owusu-Bempah, it is high-time Ghanaians emulate what transpires in some developed countries by suing inefficient service providers in the country because these providers have a binding legal agreement with consumers. No developing country can achieve lasting development without regular electricity, it can never be possible. We always tout ourselves as having a burgeoning democracyyet we cant provide basic necessities of life such as electricity and water to the citizenrywe keep blowing our own horns that we are a sovereign state, but I (Owusu-Bempah) feels so sorry for this nation, he said. The outspoken NDP communicator believes Ghana as a country has weak institutions including the ECG since their service provision leaves a sour taste in the mouth of the consumers. Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is an institution and Ghana as a country, we have weak institutions. This weak institution gets subsidies from government regardless of their operations to give valued services to consumers, but it appears they care less.they know no-one will sue them so they tend to operate anyhow, he lamented Speaking on OKAY FMs political talk show GHANA DECIDES, Owusu-Bempah said the whole country is being to suffer erratic power supply due to someones incompetency, and the appointing authority must fire those culpable to serve as a deterrent. Negligence, somebodys incompetency is causing the innocent consumer who is paying huge bills no value for money. I (Owusu Bempah) will be arrested for any illegal connection even in my own house. So the electricity people should also be taken to court for violation of contract and incompetency at the highest level because they have a contract with the people of Ghana to provide electricity regardless of their challengesWe dont need their excuses, he He continued, The government is also part of this problem, do you know why I am saying that, our leadership is not showing any will-power. They are exhibiting weakness in the wake of these institutional incompetencies. I dont want to politicize this. I respect our sitting President John Dramani Mahama a lot and he is a leader. He knows the country is in some energy crisis. When he (Prez Mahama) was in parliament during the NPPs era, his fellow party men were bitterly complaining so now I expect the president to show the way. He should tell us he is the leader by letting heads roll at the Volta River Authority (VRA) and ECG if they dont do the right thing. He should set an example to make sure; he sacks all the corrupt officials. I am very disappointed in the Presidents inability to address the electricity challenges. He should let heads roll. He must stamp his authority. Leadership is by example. We cant continue to take excuses from the ECG. Its very frustrating. You know what, let me (Owusu Bempah) try suing ECG; you will hear of someone who is obviously sick in the head raising an objection, he stated.
