Unconfirmed Reports reaching peacefmonline.com say Kofi Adams, Spokesperson for the Rawlingses, who was suspended as Deputy General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has had his suspension lifted by the party. The decision was arrived at an National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held by the party on Monday, according to peacefm sources. Kofi Adams was suspended when a tape on which he was allegedly heard, scheming with the Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a dye-in-the-wool NPP activist, to scuttle the second term bid of then NDC flagbearer, the late John Evans Atta Mills, got leaked to the press. In March 2012, a tape recording surfaced with the voices of two men suspected to be Kofi Adams and Gabby Otchere-Darko discussing the aftermath of the NDC�s Sunyani congress which overwhelmingly elected President Mills as flagbearer of the party. On the tape, the man who sounded like Mr. Adams expressed his frustration at the defeat of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, wife of former President Rawlings who contested against President Mills. The same man is heard saying he will do everything to ensure that the party loses the December polls. He alleged that the Sunyani election was rigged in favour of the sitting president and that the NDC has been inundated with corrupt acts. The party, following the revelation, held a meeting and directed the Disciplinary Committee to commence investigations into the matter, but Mr. Adams consistently maintained his innocence and challenged the authenticity of the voice recording. But in spite of his repeated explanation that portions of the tape have been doctored, the party asked him to step aside and decided to suspend him for three months to enable the Disciplinary Committee conduct full scale investigations into the matter. The party executives also gave the indication that he will only be reinstated after he has been cleared. But before the Disciplinary Committee could present its report, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party wrote to Mr. Adams, informing him of another decision to extend the suspension for another month. Not enthused by the action taken against him, Kofi Adams dragged the party to court after his suspension was announced. However, in May, an Accra High Court directed Mr. Adams and the party to settle the matter out of court and resort to an alternative dispute resolution. More soon...
