Sensational songstress Henrietta Konadu, well-known in showbiz as Herty Borngreat, has not only become the crown-princess of Ghanaian gospel music, but also a surprise puller.
In fact, she has become surprise personified! This has got nothing to do with her prettiness or sweet voice. Far from that!
Rather, the consistency and fortitude with which she always prove her critics wrong, and turn the odds in her favour, is simply awe-inspiring.
She has, in the last two years, picked very important awards that many initially thought would elude her. An example was when she swept the Discovery of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards (GMA) in 2011.
That year, perhaps no music connoisseur gave her a dog�s chance to pull through with award, given the pedigree of the nominees announced for the award.
Guru, the rapper of Lapaz Toyota fame, had then burst onto the courtesy scene, courtesy his featuring on Obrafour�s controversial song �Kasiebo�. The rap �wonderkid� was thus tipped to grab the award.
Not only that, it was the same year that the sensational rap queen, Eazzy, had also taken off in earnest, and her popularity and partronage was soaring sky-high among lovers of hiplife music. And many more equally �dreaded� nominees.
Consequently, none or few music pundits dreamt about a gospel singer like Herty Borngreat to pull through with the Discovery award.
But as fate would have it, and as discerning Ghanaian music-lovers decided through voting, Herty Borngreat was announced the winner of the enviable award, in a fashion that still astounds some of her competitors till date.
That is the mark of a talented singer. Since that day, Herty Borngreat has never looked back in her effort to liberate her full music potential, and take the gospel music industry to another level. In-between, she has also won a couple of other important awards, such as the Best Contemporary Gospel Song at the maiden Ghana Gospel Awards held recently.
In the latest of her impressive award hunts, Herty Borngreat appears to be gradually warming up to the forthcoming 2013 V-GMA in all optimism and expectation. Why? Well, simple!
She has been nominated in three categories: Best Collaboration Song of the Year (with her song Kano Seyaa), Gospel Artiste of the Year and Gospel Song of the Year.
So far, a cursory analysis by the Spectator Agoro indicate the gospel songstress could, as usual, pull another surprise again and walk away with at least two of the awards when the V-GMA finally comes off in April.
