Four officials of the Volta Regional Hospital, popularly known as �Trafalgar�, are being questioned by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for allegedly attempting to siphon GHc200,000 belonging to the hospital.
They are Dr George Acquaye, the medical superintendent; Mr Joseph Annan, the accountant; Madam Regina Blebu, the administrator, and Mr Richard Katapu, the storekeeper,
They have been granted enquiry bail and are required to report themselves at the BNI offices in Accra once a week. According to a BNI official, the government released GH�700,000 to the hospital to settle its indebtedness of GH�500,000.
The amount was lodged in the Treasury Account of the Ho Municipal Assembly and the hospital was expected to submit the names of its debtors for individual cheques to be issued to them.
The suspects are said to have connived with some individuals to submit invoices to claim the difference of GH�200,000. The BNI official said the cheques for the amount were issued and later cashed, but an individual who was said to have played a role in the deal felt cheated in the sharing of the money and, therefore, blew the lid over the deal.
When contacted on phone, Dr Acquaye declined to comment on the matter, since it was under investigation.
