We Need More Blood In The Blood Bank - Korle Bu

The Blood Bank of the Korle - Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) on Saturday organised a blood donation exercise in Accra. The exercise, which was part of preparations marking their 90th anniversary celebration slated for October, is also to celebrate successes chalked over the years. The 90th anniversary celebration is on the theme: 90 years of excellence, our Challenges, Aspirations and the Way forward. Speaking in an interview to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Samuel Nunoo, Head of the Blood Donor Recruitment, said the exercise was to save the lives of patients who needed blood to survive and should be seen as a move to satisfy oneself. He explained that the blood donation exercise was necessary due to its high demand and that the donation exercise was necessary as people needed to replenish their system hence the need to donate blood. Dr David Nortey, Head of the Korle - Bu Poly Clinic and Acting Chair of the 90th anniversary celebration, said blood donation should be a routine exercise from the public and people should always endeavour to respond to their call as it was a life saving act. He said some programmes slated for the anniversary includes: blood donation exercises, a Health walk, Public lecture, Medical outreach programmes such as providing free medical care and screening to communities, Fun games and a Dinner dance with stakeholders, past and present workers of KBTH to climax their activities. Mr Mustapha Salifu, Public Relations Officer of KBTH, said the exercise was useful because the blood bank had insufficient blood to supply to different hospitals across the country for people who would seek medical treatment.
