Ministry of Education PRO: Govts Talks With NAGRAT Yielded Positive Results

The Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education, Mr. Paul Kofi Krampah, has boldly said that though there are lingering problems to be solved, he is optimistic that the last meeting scheduled between his outfit and officials from the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and NAGRAT, has and would yield positive results. It was fruitful, it was very fruitful,in fact I didnt know of some of the issues until I attended that particular meeting. The lifting of the ban on the annul increment for the staff of the GES, I didnt know about it until we attended the meeting, he said. The Ghana National Association of Teachers(GNAT) and NAGRAT on Friday announced at a joint news conference in Accra, their decision to stay off the classroom, until their complaints were tackled. An emergency meeting was organized by government and the two giant teaching bodies at the Flagstaff House over the weekend, in an attempt to sway them to withdraw the decision while efforts were being made to address their concerns. Mr. Paul Kofi Krampah, in an interview with Okay FM, urged NAGRAT, the first body to press home their demands for arrears due them under the Single Spine Salary Structure, to exercise some form of restrain. He singled NAGRAT out and explained that things had gotten a little jagged with them because they failed to show up during the time government met with GNAT to solve the issue. An optimistic Kofi Krampah underscored that he believes GNAT would get in touch with NAGRAT and brief on the issue for them to rescind their decision. He pleaded with teachers from both associations to check their timing and do their best to return to the classrooms considering the fact that Senior High School students, are preparing to take part in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination very soon.
