FWSC: We Can't Fulfil 'Gargantuan' Promises By Teacher Unions To Members

Leaders of the striking teachers and educational workers are taking the country and its citizens for a roller-costar ride. Thats the verdict of the fair wages and salaries commission which has condemned the ongoing strike by the three unions. The commission says it is available for talks with the unions following a ruling yesterday by the national labour commission to that effect. The striking teachers had consistently accused the fair wages commission of not keeping faith with them in negotiations. But the communications manager of the commission, Earl Ankrah speaking with XYZ News said the union leaders deceived their members by making them lofty promises and pressuring the government to fulfill those wishes. The pre-requisite to getting around the table is for them to call off the strike, we cant negotiate under intimidation, its against the laws of this country. We are waiting for them, our position as fair wages and salaries commission is we will not break the law, which says you do not negotiate with anyone on strike. Some of these unions are taking the whole country for a roller coaster ride and that is not fairsomehow it looks as if they promised their people heaven and they come to fair wages with a gun on our heads and say fulfill the promises, we cannot work like that Mr. Ankrah said.
