Politicians Are Interfering With Police Activities - Ernest Owusu-Bempah

The Deputy Director of communication of the National Democratic Party, Ernest Owusu Bempah has stated that the Police with all their efficiency and prowess cannot perform because Politicians are now fully involved in Police activities thereby making it difficult to operate on their own. He explained that now in the full glare of the general public and the Police, innocent Ghanaians are been butchered as the police look on without effecting any arrest because the next day the perpetrator would be found on the street as these hoodlums are working for some politicians in the country. Speaking on Okay FM, Owusu-Bempah said that some of these thugs are not Ghanaians but yet have been allowed to occupy the abandoned Affordable Housing Project; adding that if this is not taken serious, these hooligans will besiege the 2nd city of Ghana, Kumasi. He worried that if foreigners can be allowed to stand at vantage places with guns to rob innocent citizenry, then the nation is in serious trouble since the Ashanti Regional Police Commander is now pleading with President Mahama to drive those people away from Kumasi. He divulged that the police do not have the confidence to arrest criminals who are under the full glare of the public engaging in criminal activities; stating that the police commander is asking permission because he feared to step on wrong toes in the line of discharging his duties. According to him, the police institution has been politicized to champion the activities of the politicians, as such ruffians are not been arrested for endangering the lives of the people hence posing security threat in the country. He however stated that as a country, our security priorities have not been placed right as the National Security would rather arrest and detain people who speak against the ruling government. This is our problem in the country, he noted. To him, everything bores down to leadership because the President should back his words with actions by giving the police service the needed support and confidence to discharge their duties to the fullest.
