UTAG Rejects Government's Proposal To Pay Arrears In Instalments

The University Teachers Association Ghana has rejected government's decision to pay in three instalments arrears due them. According to UTAG, they will accept nothing short of the full payment of the arrears. In an interview with Radio Ghana's correspondent, the National Vice President of UTAG, Alexander Kakraba, said members of the association across the country are not satisfied with the decision by government to pay them in three instalments and have resolved not to return to the lecture halls until full payments are made. Meanwhile, the Coalition of Parents of students has appealed to Lecturers of UTAG to listen to the arrangement of Government to pay their 2012 salary arrears and return to the Lecture Hall. Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Executive Secretary of the Coalition, Dr Simon Gbene said most often, it is the innocent students who suffer the consequences of these strikes. He therefore appealed to the Lecturers to consider the parents and students and accept the proposal by Government. Dr Gbene also asked the Education Authorities in Kumasi who have decided to send home 400 students for truancy to temper justice with mercy and accept the students back to sign an undertaking to be of good behaviour.
