Below is the profile of Major General Richard Opoku Adusei appointed as a Chief of Staff to the army on the 28 March 2013. A statement was issued and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday in Accra said Major General Opoku was born on the 24 November 1954, in Bekwai, Ashanti Region. He attended Techiman Secondary School in 1969-1974 where he obtained general certificate in education and ordinary level, he want to Bekwai Secondary School in the year 1974-1976 for his advanced level certificate and joined the Ghana Military Academy on the 28 of August 1978. He joined the Command Staff College in January - April 1990 and proceeded to the Senior Staff Command College at Kaduna, Nigeria, in August 1991. Among other studies he undertook include the standard training module 3 workshop Budapest Hungary 3 in 10 September 2004 in Nigeria and War College course 14 at the Command and Staff College, Abuja, Nigeria in September 2005-July 2006. He later proceeded to University of Ibadan-Nigeria, for his Master of Science in Strategic Studies in September 2006 to February 2007. Major General Opoku was appointed as Platoon Commander Border Guards in August 1978 and by March 1985, he became the Officer Commander 3 Border Guard Battalion. He was a company commander airborne force in Tamale from December 1984- March 1985, company commander of jungle warfare school Achiase in March- November 1985, company commander airborne force Tamale in November 1985- December 1986, company second-in-command Ghana battalion 27 United Nations interim forces in Lebanon December 1986-July 1987. From July 1987- March 1988, he was the company commander of airborne force of Tamale and the officer commanding trial and development wing jingle warfare school Achiase from March 1988-May 1989, then a company commander Ghana battalion 32 United Nations interim forces in Lebanon May 1989- February 1990. He also served as the Commandant of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service training school Kpetoe in May 1990- August 1991, company commander airborne force Tamale May- January 1991, General Staff Officer grade II headquarters support service brigade Burma camp in July 1992- February 1993. From February-September 1993, he was the second-in-command Ghana Battalion 7 ECOWAS ceasefire monitoring group in Lebanon, February-September 1993, second-in-command airborne force Tamale September 1993-March 1994, second in command Ghana battalion 40 United Nations interim force in Lebanon March-September 1994. The statement said Major General Opoku was the military observer in United Nations assistance mission in Rwanda from January 1995-January 1996, tactical instructor army combat training school, Deputy Director army intelligence and plans, army headquarters from September 1996-August 1997, directing staff junior division Ghana armed forces staff college Teshie in August1997-June1997, commanding officer Ghana battalion 16 Ecowas ceasefire monitoring group Liberia June-December 1999. Major General Opoku also worked as the commanding officer of the Ghana battalion 1 United Nations mission in Sierra Leone from December1999-August 2000, directing staff and senior division Ghana armed force command and Staff College in Teshie from August-December 2000, commanding officer 3 battalion of infantry Sunyani from December 2000- February 2002,commanding officer Ghana battalion 5 united nations mission in Sierra Leone February-September 2000, commanding officer 3 battalion of infantry Sunyani in October 2002-October 2003. He was also the Deputy Director General of Logistics installation in June 2004-September 2005, Chief Instructor joint studies Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College in March 2007-May 2008, Staff Officer United Nations mission in Central African Republic and Chad in February 2009-February 2010. He served as the assistant commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces command and staff college junior division in February 2010-July 2011, General Officer commanding the Northern command July 2011-March 2013 and has now been appointed as the chief of Staff to the army. Major General Opoku is married with two children; his hobbies include Football, Badminton and table tennis.
