Nii Armah Akomfrah: Labour Agitations Are As a Result of Mismanagement

The Communications Director of the CPP, Nii Armah Akomfrah has stated categorically that the recent spate of industrial strike action being embarked upon in the labour front is as a result of the level of mismanagement we are experiencing at the moment. Why arrears, arrears, arrears? Everywhere you look, there are arrears. And it is almost as if we are overlooking the larger picture. How do you run a country and get to a point where you have arrears for teachers, you have arrears for Doctors and yet you seem to find money for judgment debt and a whole range of things. Not to mention, monies for the elite, he questioned sadly. These comments of the CPP Communications Director comes on the back of agitations on the labour front, leading to a series of industrial actions, first by the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) followed by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and now the, Ghana Medical Association (GMA). The CPP director could not believe that in the midst of all the tension from the labour unions and the excuses by government being represented by the Faire Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), there is no money but government has cough a whooping GHC36million for disbursement to parliamentarians as ex-gratia. A furious Mr. Akomfrah maintained that; there is an elite group of people in this country, who does not care about the conditions and needs of the majority of the population. The CPP communicator further urged stakeholders to begin talking about the 2013 arrears owed UTAG also, before we are slapped in the face with that one too.
