Workers Must Prepare Adequately For Their Retirement TUC

Ghanaian workers have been advised to prepare adequately towards their retirement. The Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Kofi Asamoah stated that workers must ensure that their employers adequately pay their social security contributions on regularly basis. He made the call at a general meeting organized by the Tema District Council of Labour at the GHACEM Club House in Tema. He attributed low pensions of workers to low wages while they were in active service. Mr Asamoah therefore urged workers to take negotiations on wages seriously and bond them together to demand their fair share of the national cake. On this years minimum wage for workers, Mr Asamoah assured workers that organized labour was in serious negotiations with the other parties to ensure that a new minimum wage was announced before this years May Day celebrations. The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Nii Armah Ashietey advised the workers to always engage in dialogue with government over their grievances rather than resorting to strike actions. According to him, everything possible was being done to address the grievances of striking doctors to enable them to return to work.
