Funding has been secured by the government for the construction of the nation�s second military hospital, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, has said.
About 62 acres has already been acquired by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at Nkukuom, near Kumasi, for the project.
The 1,000-bed facility, to be jointly funded by the Ghanaian and Chinese governments, will also have a nursing school and basically serve the northern part of the country.
Mr Opoku inspected the land earmarked for the project last Thursday but did not disclose the amount which had been secured so far by the government for the project.
However, he said arrangements had been made for the President to officially cut the sod for work to commence soon.
The project is expected to be completed in four years.
Mr Opoku gave an assurance that everything possible would be done for the successful completion of the project which was very dear to the heart of the government.
He said as the Ashanti Regional Minister, it was his responsibility to supervise and drive the project to its logical conclusion.
In his State of the Nation Address, President John Mahama gave a firm commitment to ensure the implementation of the project.
Currently, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the only standard health facility for the northern sector, is overstretched, as it serves patients from Cote d�Ivoire and Burkina Faso, as well.
