Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) has confirmed the theft of some money from an automated teller machine (ATM) at the Market Circle branch of the bank in Takoradi as reported by the Daily Graphic. However, the bank has explained that the amount stolen is not more than GH�3 million as reported by the Daily Graphic. In a press statement signed by the Chief Operating Officer, Mr Kojo Addae Mensah, the bank said due to the fact that the case was before court and investigations were still on going, it will be premature to give a figure. ��but our investigations so far show that the amount involved is significantly lower than the amount carried by the newspaper�, the bank said. It was reported that a private security man had been arrested for allegedly duplicating the key of the ATM and stealing more than GH�3 million belonging to the bank. Also arrested is an employee of the bank who was officially responsible for putting money in the ATM. The theft, according to the GCB, came to light after "extensive investigation by the bank into irregular patterns in cash movements in the Takoradi Market circle ATM". �This finally resulted in the arrest of the culprits. Investigations are still are ongoing,� the statement noted. It said the bank has recently invested in appropriate tools to monitor and detect such anomalies from a central point. This indeed helped in detecting this particular incident. We want to reassure our numerous customers and the general public that this matter is under control,� the statement concluded.
