U.S. Human Rights Report Commends First Lady

The United Sates of America's Human Rights report for 2012 has commended Mrs Lordina Mahama, Ghanas First Lady, for championing the crusade against the alleged witches of Gambaga. Mrs Mahama visited the Gambaga Witch Camp in December 2012 to fraternize with the elderly women accused of being witches and also to identify what their needs. The Gambaga Witch Camp was an emotional sight as she was choked and could not address the alleged witches. Mrs Mahama was seen shedding tears which the Ghanaian media picked based on which more attention was given to the issue of Witch Camps in Ghana, the report said. The report noted that: In December, the First Lady, Lordina Mahama who visited the Gambaga Witch Camp in the Northern Region donated food and clothing to the elderly women living in the camp. It said the First Lady has over the years supported orphans and the less privileged people in the Ghana. She is also supporting seven orphanages and scores of non-resident disadvantaged children across the country including babies who are HIV positive and abandoned by their parents and family members.
