GIS Fraudster Nabbed

The Sakumono District Police has arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly defrauding 14 persons under the pretext of enlisting them into the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS). The suspect, Ahiable Hilarious Fafa, a resident of Sakumono was said to have collected GH1,000 each from the victims and GH300 each for medicals to determine their health status and went into hiding after receiving the said money. Superintendent Alex Wowolo, Sakumono District Police Command told DAILY GUIDE that somewhere in February, 2013, the suspect, Ahiable asked a certain Eric Yao Adjorlolo to organise people who wanted to join the GIS this year for him to enlist them into the service through protocol means. According to him, Adjorlolo managed to organise 14 people including women. Ahiable asked each person to pay a cash sum of GH1000 for the processing of their documents which included payment of bribe to some senior immigration officers who would ensure their enlistment into the service. The Sakumono District Police Commander explained that the victims obliged and gave the requested amount of money to Eric who went with one of the victims to ministries in Accra and gave a total sum of GH14,000 to Ahiable. Ahiable, as noted by Superintendent Wowolo, further demanded additional GH300 each for their medical examinations which they obliged. The suspect after collecting the money went into hiding and all efforts to reach him proved futile. The victims became suspicious and reported the matter to Sakumono Police where Adjorlolo was apprehended. Adjorlolo, Superintendent Wowolo stated, assisted investigations which led to the arrest of Ahiable at his hideout in Accra last Wednesday. Adjorlolo who admitted the offence during interrogation, promised to refund the money to the victims. The suspect would be arraigned when investigation into the matter is completed, according to the District Police Commander.
