Gbevlo Forestalls Regional Hospital Closure

The National Security led by Larry Gbevlo-Lartey has begun moves to forestall the closure of the Central Regional Hospital in Cape Coast as an acute water shortage hits parts of the town. According to hospital officials, the closure would help avert infections that can escalate into a pandemic in the Cape Coast Municipality and its environs. The current human security intervention happens to be the second time the nations security apparatus has gone to the rescue of a vital health institution over acute water shortage. The Herald recalled that under the late President John Mills administration, the national security swiftly responded to a similar call from the Accra Psychiatric Hospital over the same acute water shortage. Again, the Ghana Armed Forces as well suffered equal bouts of water crisis sometimes ago, but had it subsequently fixed by the National Security. This prompt humanitarian rescue mission is part of the mandate of the Human Security Department, led by Major Ignatius Awuni under the National Security. Central Regional Medical Director, Dr. Daniel Asare has gone on radio, saying my fear is that if the situation goes beyond Monday [and if the striking doctors resume work] I am afraid we may have to close down. However, Joy News has learnt a team of National Security persons have been in Cape Coast to help deal with the situation. But reports are that the security agency with the support of the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Water Company Limited has sent water to fill the hospitals reservoirs. Reports say the situation was becoming hopeless as pregnant women were asked to bring their own water to help clean themselves after delivery, Kwadwo Nyarko observed. The situation, however, is not peculiar to the regional hospital, other hospitals within the Cape Coast Metropolis are facing similar difficulties, he reported. Even though the Ghana Water Company Limited promised to supply residents with 21 poly-tanks to alleviate the problem there, only eight have been supplied as at Saturday afternoon. The students in the metropolis have also been affected by the acute water shortage. Pix Parts of the Cape Coast Metropolis have been hit by an acute water shortage
