Zoom Alliance, AMA Clean Accra

Zoom Alliance in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assemblies (AMA) has intensified its clean-up exercise in some parts of the Accra metropolis as part of preparations towards the rainy season. Zoom Alliance, the AMA and the Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Kwadwo Oppong Ofosu, last Saturday mobilised some residents, staff of Zoom Alliance, security personnel from the Ghana Police Service and some officers of the Ghana National Fire Service to clear the drains at Agbogbloshie and other parts of Accra. Speaking to the media during the exercise, Dr Alfred Vanderpuije, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the weekly exercise would help clear the gutters to facilitate the free flow of water and also prepare for the takeoff of a major project. We are undertaking this exercise continuously, consistently every week to prepare the grounds for the takeoff of the major county project. Our goal is that we will continue this exercise and we are going to dredge the Korle Lagoon of all materials, Dr Vanderpuije said. Dr Vanderpuije added that in line with the assemblys environmental sanitation control programme, environmental health officers would soon embark on a house-to-house exercise to ensure that residents kept the environs clean. The AMA boss further thanked Zoom Alliance for its support and urged waste collectors to also intensify the collection of refuse from homes. Speaking on the behalf of the Managing Director of Zoom Alliance, Mr Kenneth Asare, the Senior Technical and Operations Manager, said environmental cleanliness was a shared responsibility, adding that everybodys participation is what will help us really clear the filth that we find ourselves in. He reiterated his outfits readiness to continuously support any organisation that was ready to help clean the country with both human and technical resources. We have the human capacity and the technical logistics and we will do what we ought to do to ensure that our environment is kept clean, Mr Asare added. He said Zoom Alliance would continue to lead the campaign of cleaning the environment but urged community members to get involved, since that was one of the ways of sustaining the exercise. The Senior Public Affairs Officer of Zoom Alliance, Jacob Mingle, for his part, said as leaders in sanitation management in Ghana, they were ready to support any group of individuals with both human and technical resources in cleaning the country for a healthy living.
