Canadian Governor General Begins Four Day State Visit To Ghana On Monday

The Governor General of Canada, David Lloyd Johnston and his wife, Mrs. Sharon Johnston will be in Ghana on Monday for a four-day State Visit. The visit will be the first leg of a three country African tour that will also see Mr. Johnston visiting Republic of Botswana and South Africa. A statement signed by a Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, said the Governor General and his delegation will hold meetings with President John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House and also visit the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. Mr Johnston will also visit the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and co-host a business luncheon with Vice President, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur. The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen the commercial and educational ties between the two countries. David Johnston is a Canadian academic, author and statesman who is the 28th since the Canadian Confederation. The Governor General is the federal representative of the Canadian monarch, Queen Elizabeth who on the advice of her Canadian Prime Minister only, appoints the Governor General to carry out most of her constitutional and ceremonial duties.
