Driver Arrested For Stealing Vehicle

A 27-year-old driver has been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing a Land Rover Freelander vehicle at Paraku Estates in Accra. The suspect � Michael Kwabena Rockson, a native of Komenda in the Central Region � was arrested last Friday, May 17 at Abokobi when he was about selling the stolen car to an unknown buyer. Briefing The Finder yesterday, the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said on Friday, May 17at about 10.40am information got to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command that a Land Rover Freelander vehicle with the registration number GB 6708-12 was stolen by an unknown group of persons. He said upon receipt of the information, the Command strategised and mounted a search for the stolen vehicle. DCOP Yohuno said at about 12.30pm on the same day the police had information that the suspect who stole the vehicle was at Oyarifa. He said a team of detectives was dispatched to the aforementioned place and mounted a search for the stolen vehicle as well as the occupant on board. �The team on their arrival had information that the suspect was spotted with the vehicle, which he was offering for sale at Abokobi,� DCOP Yohuno stated. The Commander said the team mapped up a strategy and got the suspect arrested, together with the stolen vehicle at Abokobi area. Upon investigation, the suspect admitted the offence. In another development, on May 16, 2013 at about 3.20am the Regional Police Command received information that a Black Nissan Frontier pick-up with trial plate number DV 3999-13 with one left rear tyre removed was found parked in a nearby bush at Amanfrom. DCOP Yohuno said there was no occupant and believed the said vehicle had been stolen. He said the police deflated the tyres of the vehicle and laid ambush with the view of arresting anybody who would come to take the vehicle. However, after some time when no one was coming, the vehicle was towed to Amasaman Police Station and later sent to the Regional Police Headquarters.
