Gov't Needs Foreign Help To Tackle Sanitation And Housing Deficit - Dauda

The Minister for Water Resources Works and Housing, Hon. Collins Dauda, has claimed that government needs massive external support to be able to tackle the water and sanitation problem in the country. Mr. Collins Dauda is however urging external investors to partner the government to input resources as the demand for houses exceeds the supply. Speaking at the Water and Sanitation 2013 conference held at the Conference Centre on Wednesday, Hon. Collins Dauda stated that with the 1.7 million deficit of houses, the government needs support to complete this project. He added that the Governments target of supplying affordable social housing by 2015 will not be met until it gets some external support. We would not be able to generate sufficient funds internally to enable us to provide 1.7million houses. Even we spread it for a period of ten years that would mean we do 170,000 houses in a year; so it is very obvious that we need to find partners outside to help us and that is the area the government is focusing on. The Minister also highlighted the fact that all regions in Ghana will have decent housing units that will steadily lead to sufficiently clean water and sanitation facilities.
