An Aflao Police Patrol team has intercepted a bus loaded with 60 bags of fertilizer at Akporkploe, a village near Aflao. The driver and his mate on board the Mercedes minibus, with a Togolese registration number, fled into a nearby bush, as the team proceeded to examine the consignment. There was no waybill or document covering the 50 kilogramme bags of Afcott Uria fertilizer, believed to have been imported into Ghana under the government�s fertilizer subsidy programme. One Kwame Ahasu, a native of Viepe, a suburb of Aflao, who showed up to claim the consignment he claimed were collected from Tema for farmers in the Akporkploe area, has been placed in custody assisting with investigations. Mr Emmanuel Odonkor Aflao Police Commander told the GNA that at about 1700 hours last Wednesday, his men on patrol duties spotted the bus on the unapproved route towards Akporkploe and pursued it. He said as the team got the vehicle to stop and started examining the goods, the driver and his mate absconded. Mr Odonkor said the fertilizer and the bus have been impounded while investigations continued. He said the police would also want to know how a Togolese registered vehicle got involved in carting suspected subsidized fertilizer and driving towards the border.
