NDC "Activist" Shipped 3,000 kilos Of Cocaine Into Ghana...Investigate SOHIN Security - NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) wants a full scale public inquiry into how the Head of Security at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Mr Solomon Adelaquaye, who was arrested recently for allegedly conspiring to import heroin into the United States, was awarded the sole contract to provide security at KIA. The opposition party, in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, accused Mr Adelaquaye of shipping "3,000 kilograms of cocaine into Ghana" and therefore called on President Mahama to launch "a public inquiry and investigate all" other security services operating at the airport, as a sign of his commitment to fighting the drug menace. The NPP, however, does not want the investigation to be carried out by the National Security outfit "for obvious reasons". "The shipment of some 3,000 kilograms of cocaine into Ghana by Mr Adelaquaye and his accomplices goes to prove the fears of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, who expressed fears that some of members of his government may be complicit in the drug trade...President Mahama, as a sign of determination to fighting the drug menace, must immediately institute a public inquiry...," the statement said. Read below the full statement by the NPP. Investigate Mode Of Award Of Contract & Operations Of SOHIN Security Ghanaians, last week, heard of the news of the arrest in the United States of America of the Head of Security at the Kotoka International Airport, Mr Solomon Adelaquaye, for allegedly conspiring to import heroin into the United States. What is even more worrying is that this alleged drug baron, in return for helping to ship heroin into the United States from Ghana, was to import 3,000 kilograms of cocaine into Ghana from the US, and subsequently export it to Asia. Not only has this development reinforced the notion that Ghana is increasingly becoming a transit point for the drug trade, but at the heart of this drug deal was the man in charge of security at the Kotoka international Airport, one of West Africa's main air transport hubs. It has become clearer over the last few days that Mr Adelaquayes company, Sohin Security, was awarded the contract to provide security at the Kotoka International Airport largely because of his associations to the ruling National Democratic Congress, rather than for the competence and expertise of his company. Indeed, we are reliably informed that Sohin Security has no proven track record in the security business, and yet National Security deemed it proper to offer such an important contract to a company with no proven track record. In light of this, the New Patriotic Party is calling for a full scale public inquiry into how an alleged drug baron was awarded to the sole contract to provide security at the Kotoka International Airport. We are also calling for an investigation into the operations of Sohin Security as well as all other security services operating at the airport. Such an investigation, clearly, cannot be conducted by the National Security outfit for obvious reasons. The shipment of some 3,000 kilograms of cocaine into Ghana by Mr Adelaquaye and his accomplices goes to prove the fears of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, who expressed fears that some of members of his government may be complicit in the drug trade. President Mahama, as a sign of determination to fighting the drug menace, must immediately institute a public inquiry and investigate the mode surrounding the award of the security contract at the Kotoka International Airport to Sohin Security, as well as its operations at the airport over the years. ......signed......
