Presby Church donates to flood victims

Mr Issah Zakaria, Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, has commended Presbyterian Church of Ghana for donating large quantity of relief items worth GH� 54,000 to rainstorm victims in Northern Region. Mr Zakaria made the commendation when he received five bales of blankets, 100 bags of maize, six bags of beans, 17 cartons of frytol oil, 13 cartons of key soap, 15 packets of iron sheets, three bales of mosquito nets and 2,000 plastic plates on behalf of the rainstorm victims at the Mission House of the Church in Yendi. He said the items had come at the right time since most of the displaced people need help. Mr Zakaria said within three months the municipality has been hit by rainstorm destroying lives and properties. He said more than 17 schools have been destroyed by the rainstorm. He said the government alone cannot help the victims and appealed to other churches in the municipality to emulate the example. Mr Simon Wusuwe, Northern Presbytery Development and Social Service Programme Officer, who presented the items on behalf of the church said the beneficiary districts include Nanumba North, Nanumba South East Mamprusi and West Mamprusi Districts. He said the donation was made possible through, Act Alliance, Christian Aid and other partners. Mr Kofi Bigah, Municipal National Disaster Management Organisation Coordinator said 618 houses were destroyed with more than 1000 people displaced within three months.
