Mr. Frederick Clavier, French Ambassador to Ghana, has said that the French Government was initiating a project to support mechanisms aimed at ensuring accountability in the central and local administrative sectors of Ghana. This, the Ambassador said would help to deepen democratic governance and transparency in Ghana. Mr Clavier said, France would also support efforts being made by the Government of Ghana, to improve the public sector administration, as part of the ongoing public sector reforms. He made the remarks at the inauguration of a computer laboratory and a refurbished girl�s dormitory for the Government Secretarial School in Tamale, on Monday. Mr Clavier said the French Government was supporting public sector reforms, which spans 2007 to 2013, with 1.2 million Euros. He said France shared some values with the people of Ghana, and mentioned democratic governance and political stability. Mr Clavier said France was committed to collaborating with Ghana in areas of development. He asked public sector workers in Ghana to develop their skills to propel reforms in governance towards development that the country was yearning for. Alhaji Alidu Fuseini, Acting Chief Director at the Office of the Head of Civil Service, has observed that the Tamale Government Secretarial School has over the years trained many civil servants, particularly secretaries. He commended the French Government for refurbishing the school. Alhaji Abdul-Basit Fuseini, Deputy Northern Regional Minister, called on the youth to acquire skills in Information and Communication Technology, to boost their chances at the global labour market. He said government would continue to invest in the human resource development needs of the country and urged the youth to take advantage of the initiative and harness their potentials. Mrs. Gyimah Sherifatu, Principal of the Tamale Secretarial School, appealed to the government to provide the educational institution with infrastructure and a school bus. In a related development, the French Ambassador held a meeting with members of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, and the assembly announced its medium to long term strategic development plan. The Tamale metro is part of four cities in the country benefiting from the Ghana Urban Management Pilot Project being financed by the French Government at the cost of 40 million Euros.
