GIPC Launches Ghana Club 100 Awards

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), has launched the 13th edition of the Ghana Club 100 Awards on the theme: Promoting Good Corporate Governance and Innovative Entrepreneurship, in Accra. The awards, which is an annual event, compiles the top 100 companies in Ghana for due recognition of successful enterprises. The programme is also a benchmark for corporate excellence, and companies selected among the top 100, serve as role models for the private sector and it also provides a forum for business organizations to interact with government. The Chief Executive Officer of GIPC, Mawuena Trebarh, said the emphasis on corporate governance was directed by GIPCs understanding that the existence of strong governance provides better access to capital, and aids economic growth. She revealed that properly designed rules of governance should focus on implementing values of fairness, transparency, accountability and responsibility to both shareholders and stakeholders. According to Mrs Trebarh, as the country continued to position itself as Africas Golden Gateway for investors across the globe, private sector operators would be encouraged to embrace internationally accepted and good corporate governance. The GIPC boss noted that the Centre will engage in focus group discussion with Chief Executive Officer of the Club 100 to elicit views and concerns about the Club and the awards in order to maximize their experience for the future. The Centre will establish Hall of Fame for previous participants to serve as role models for new ones. Mr Rashid Pelpuo, Minister of State in Charge of Private Sector Development, assured business enterprises of governments support, to provide a good environment for the growth of business. The needed infrastructure will be provided by government for business development in the country, he added. Mr Pelpuo appealed to all operators in the business sector to join the Ghana Club 100 and called on business owners to be transparent in their operations and play by the rules. Dr Ishmael Yamson, Board Chairman of GIPC, in a televised message, said this years event would seek to recognize performance and innovation in business. He said the Centre has also launched their re-designed website with three main features to communicate with investors and the website was designed to have a world-class web presence to meet the needs of local and foreign investors. The website has 13 language translators, created with responsible technologies to automatically render the user interface for mobile devices," Dr Yamson said.
