Govt Must Reward Martin Amidu GII

The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has advised government to reward former Attorney General, Martin Amidu for his tremendous efforts in trying to retrieve the 47 million Euros paid as judgment debt. The Supreme Court last week ordered Waterville Holdings to refund the 47 million Euros paid them as a judgment debt by government following a suit filed by Mr. Amidu against businessman Alfred Woyome, Austro Invest and Waterville Holdings. In an interview on Eyewitness News on Monday, the Executive Director of the GII, Vitus Azeem commended the former AG for his efforts and added that the government should take the commendations a step further by rewarding him. He needs to be commended but also government needs to quickly acknowledge the achievement and probably even laud him for his efforts because he spent his time which could have been spent doing other things to pursue this case so part of the recognition, I think he should be awarded for this especially if the money ins finally recovered. He explained that there are many ways through which Mr. Amidu could be rewarded such as a 30 percentage of the money that will be recovered. I think the whistle blower Act makes some provisions somewhere like that or maybe the day that the government is giving awards to people that have contributed in various ways or he can be recognized with a citation.
