NDC Communicator: Martin Amidu Must Be Paid Back In Monetary Terms

As many are of the view that the former Attorney-General under the administration of the late President Mills deserves to be honored with an institution to champion the course of fighting corruption in the country, a member of the ruling government communication machinery, Alhaji Naziru Mohammed is of the outlook that Mr. Amidu must be paid back for his effort. He said that the payment must be made in monetary terms which will help him to forfeit the cost he incurred in fighting the case to this point in order to encourage others to use their resources to fight for such a dignified course with the anticipation that the government in power will replenish the cost involved. As a panelist on Okay FM, he said that the man who has won the heart of Ghanaians across the political divides has done well for Ghana by helping to retrieve a lot of money for the nation; adding that though Kennedy Agyapong has been a good whistle blower in this case, his effort cannot be compared to the achievement of Martin Amidu who went through pain against all odds to champion this itinerary. He however disagreed with those who are scaling Martin Amidu and Kennedy Agyapong together; hinting that about 9 million Euros was paid by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in this case when in power, but Kennedy Agyapong did not come out then to condemn the payment when he knew it was illegal. He therefore reiterated that Hon. Martin Amidu in this case has justified his position as a lawyer and a staunch NDC member who understands and believes in probity, accountability and social justices. He said that despite the internal forces which were pulling some strings before he filed the case in court, as a nation we should not rest at the fact that Mr. Amidu has helped to retrieve such an amount but measures must be put in place to avoid future episode; adding that his effort must be honored graciously to encourage others.
