President John Dramani Mahama is gradually winning over the founder of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings through the appointment of some personalities to key positions, Daily Guide has gathered. A known supporter of Rawlings in Kumasi, Ofori Agyeman Boadi, popularly known as Zuba, has been appointed as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Obuasi by the President. Sources in Kumasi described Zubas appointment by President Mahama as appropriate. Agyeman Boad was part of a group of party members that backed the Rawlingses in Kumasi when other members deserted them. Incidentally, Zubas mother, Grace Aboagye Yeboah is the Ashanti Regional Organizer of the 31st December Womens Movement, which is headed by former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings. Besides his support for the Rawlingses over the years, Zuba has promoted the interest of the party in the Ashanti region considered the stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). NDC loyalists in the region told DAILY GUIDE that the move would deepen relations between the President and the Rawlingses. An NDC guru in the Ashanti region, who pleaded anonymity, said the President intends to strengthen ties with the Rawlingses. He said the appointment of Zuba by President Mahama shows that he intends to take advice from Mr. Rawlings. He praised the President for adopting a peaceful attitude towards the Rawlingses, insisting that NDC stands to benefit if peace reigns in the party. According to him, the President is not vindictive but loves to develop the ruling political party. The NDC guru praised President Mahama for his uprightness and admonished him not to take any action that could damage his relationship with Mr. Rawlings.
