Sack Kofi Adams

After a failed attempt at the presidency in the 2012 general elections, a former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, is aiming at a second attempt in 2016, but has been warned to be wary of possible sabotage from her husbands office. Mr. Joseph Bediako, a founding member of the National Democratic Party (NDP), led by Mrs. Rawlings, blamed the partys failed attempt at contesting the 2012 elections on the reinstated Deputy General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kofi Adams. According to Mr. Bediako, Mrs. Rawlings presidential ambition is likely to fail again if Mr. Kofi Adams remained at her husbands office as his spokesperson. I am advising Mrs. Rawlings to get Kofi Adams out of her husbands office, or forget the 2016 contest, Mr. Bediako said. Mr. Bediako alleged that Mr. Adams, who was very instrumental in the formation and organisation of the NDP from its inception, later betrayed their trust by working behind the scenes to ditch the party. Mr. Bediako further revealed that Mr. Kofi Adams was the one who suggested the colours for the NDP, which was presented to the Electoral Commission. He said they could not come to terms with the fact that the same person who helped them to tour the country and wrestle power from the National Democratic Congress, could now turn around to do the party in. However, responding to the allegations, Mr. Adams told The Chronicle that assuming, without admitting, that he was indeed, instrumental in the formation of the party, it would be foolhardy for anyone to continue a project whose leader has realised its self-destructive nature and abandoned it. He, however, said he would rather answer to anyone in an executive position in the NDP, than to any fool who parades himself as one. Mrs. Rawlings attempt at the presidency in the 2012 elections was thwarted, when her nomination forms were rejected by the Electoral Commission for failure to successfully file her nominations within the stipulated time. Earlier, the Electoral Commission (EC) had rejected the black, red, white and green colours presented for registration by the NDP, on the basis that it violated the Political Parties Act 574. Suggestions within the party are that Mrs. Rawlings is sure to lead the party again in 2016.
