The Next After Sammy Awuku Will Be Jailed

The leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Legal Team, Victor Kwadwoga Adawudu, has warned both New Patriotic Party (NPP) and NDC political analysts to desist from comments which may be cited as contempt of court in the ongoing 2012 election petition. According to him, the Supreme court has shown much seriousness on comments being made by both the petitioners and respondents party members and anyone who would be summoned to court again might face a jail sentence. The court has sent a clear signal that whoever will be cited for contempt - from the President to the messenger will face an angry panel of judges, he warned. A humble Sammy Awuku's appearance in the Supreme Court upon his contemptuous statement on Peace FM narrowly escaped jail by apologising profusely and also upon the intervention of lead counsel for both petitioners and respondents. The Bar, beginning with Philip Addison, lead counsel for the petitioners apologised on behalf of Sammy Awuku. The Respondents also joined the chorus by pleading with the judges to tamper justice with mercy. Lawyer Addison together with the respondents lawyers (Tony Lithur, Tsatsu Tsikata and Quashie-Idun) met the bench in chambers to apologise on behalf of Mr. Awuku. But lawyer Kwadowga Adawudu on OKAY FM reiterated that both counsels will not repeat such aid when one is again cited for contempt. I will want to warn both party supporters that they should be cautious with their utterances. I am pleading with them because no lawyer will once again plead on behalf of any other offender. I can say with authority that no lawyer will do that again, he advised.
