Court Jails Mason 30 Years For Robbery

An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday handed a 30-year prison term to Danladi Mohammed, a Mason, for robbery contrary to section 149 of the Criminal Code 1960, Act 29/60. The Court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri said robbery has become a national issue and people like Mohammed do not deserve mercy as mercy is given to only people who show mercy. He said considering the fact that Mohammed is an ex-convict who was charged with assault, deserve harsher sentence to serve as a deterrent to others. The convict was said to have robbed one Seraphina Owusu Lasi of her bag containing GH 420.00, a Nokia phone valued at GH180.00, a wallet, a bunch of keys and five ID Cards. The case as presented by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Reindolf Agyemang is that the complainant is a porter whilst the convict is a mason. He said at about 0500 hours October 10, 2010, the complainant was waiting for transport from Manhean to Accra when the Mohammed and his accomplices now at large attacked her with cutlasses and inflicted a deep cut on her left arm and fingers. DSP Agyemang told the court that in the process, the convict snatched the complainant's bag containing the money and the other items and went into hiding. He said on November 13, 2010, the complainant spotted Mohammed at Manhean and identified him to the members of the Manhean Ghana Private Road and Transport Unit, who arrested and handed him over to the police.
