FIDELITY Bank Exercises With New Horizon

Leading Ghanaian Bank demonstrates its commitment to education The Management & Staff of Fidelity Bank participated in a campaign being embarked on by the New Horizon Special School (NHSS) dubbed Don't Leave Me Behind. The school embarked on a Fun Day Programme that took place at the New Horizon Special School premises to entertain the kids. The School does this habitually every year with the unfailing support of Fidelity Bank. The Fun Games was organized to raise awareness of what the School has done so far and to solicit the support of the public for the future. The New Horizon Special School is a purpose-built establishment started 41 years ago (on 10th January, 1972) by a mother who had a daughter with a disability, supported by friends from the American Women Association and two mothers. The school is registered with Ghana Education Service and has been legally registered as a voluntary non-profit making and charitable institution. It has also been registered as a nongovernmental organization (N.G.O.) with the Department of Social Welfare. The School provides Basic Day School Education for children, with Vocational Training and Employment for adults who are visually impaired, or have Intellectual Disabilities. It is currently managed by an Executive Director and controlled by a Board of Trustees. The Fun Day activities took place on the 29th of June, 2013. It attracted more than three hundred participants made up of parents, friends and well-wishers of the School as well as staff of Fidelity Bank. In addition to full sponsorship of the Days activities, Fidelity Bank presented an amount of GH3,000 to the School to meet their pressing needs. Fidelity re-affirmed its commitment to improving the well-being of the less-privileged in society through focused, meaningful interventions such as these. In her remarks, Mrs. Salome Francois, the Founder & Executive Director of the School emphasized that in spite of the progress made, there was so much more to be done to cater for the needs of an ever-growing number of children with special needs. The New Horizon School believes that every child, whether handicapped or not has the right to develop to the limits of his or her capabilities. It has therefore embarked on the Adopt a Student Program, where needy children receive individual sponsorship from kind-spirited people to enable them attend the school. This programme helps some of the children but does not reduce the overall budgetary deficit of the school. Ghanaians and the public alike are urged to support the School.
