Tarkwa Nsueam MTTU arrest fifty drivers

The Tarkwa Nsueam Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday arrested fifty drivers within the Municipality for committing various road traffic offences. The drivers who were arrested are being processed to appear before court. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the divisional MTTU commander for the Municipality, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Honu-Broni, said due to the irresponsible behavior of some drivers there have been increasing cases of accidents in the Municipality. He said in this regard, his outfit has been organizing regular public awareness programmes for the drivers at their respective lorry stations but it has not yielded any positive results. ASP Honu-Broni said to ensure decency and discipline on the road, the MTTU division is embarking on a weeklong exercise to flush out unqualified and recalcitrant drivers as well as defective vehicles in the system. The MTTU commander said the operation will be held frequently to ensure that there is sanity on the roads.
