Sametrolinks hands over renovated classrooms

Sametrolinks Company Limited (SCL) has renovated a three-unit and a six-unit classroom block at a total cost of 22,944 Ghana cedis. The units belonged to the Methodist and John Taylor Junior High Schools in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality. In addition to the renovation works the company also presented a computer and 200 pieces of exercise books to the schools. Handing over the facilities to the headmistresses at a separate ceremony in Tarkwa and New Atuabo, the Operations Sales Manager of SCL, Mr Emmanuel Oowodoo Kwaansah said the company, which is a distributer of MTN products for the northern part of Western Region, would continue to support the various communities in the area. Mr Kwaansah said since the inception of its community development programme, the company considered education as the most important component and appealed to the authorities of the schools to manage and protect the facilities provided. He also urged to the pupils to be discipline, respectful and obedient in class to enable them to excel throughout their academic life. The MTN Manager in charge of Finance and Administration for the Western and Central regions, Mr Ben Nutifafa Ohene, in his welcoming address, said due to the seriousness attached to the Corporate Social Responsibility, MTN Ghana has established a separate body called the MTN Ghana foundation to take care of such operations. He said the Foundation which has been in existence for the past seven years focuses on health, education and economic empowerment. Mr Nutifafa Ohene said in the Western Region, the Foundation has commissioned a modern Information Communication Technology center at Esiama and a two storey building constructed for the Ahantaman Senior High School, while work is on-going at the Western Regional Library located in Takoradi. He said these projects would help increase the enrollment in schools and improve academic performance as the company works fervently to help Ghana attain the Millennium Development Goals four and five. Madam Mary Asmah, Headmistress of John Taylor JHS, thanked the company for the gesture.
