Stephen Atubiga says he thought he was going to die or get assassinated on Tuesday when he was being driven to the Nsawam prisons from Accra after the Supreme Court sentenced him to three days in jail for criminal contempt.
The governing National Democratic Congress' Communication team member, who was released on Thursday from the Akuse prisons facility, says the traveling speed of the pick up truck which conveyed him and Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Ken Kuranchie to the Nsawam prisons gave him the freaks.
�We got to Nsawam around 9 and it was the scariest point because the Police officers did not take the right lane. They were on the left lane meeting the [on]coming cars at a very top speed�.
��Sitting in there with my brother Ken Kuranchie, we just [prayed] that God please take us to the jail in one piece�.
Atubiga was jailed for vowing on radio the President and the governing National Democratic Congress will not hand over power even if the Court ruled to that effect in the election petition hearing.
Mr. Kuranchie, whose Newspaper questioned the Supreme Court�s basis for inviting and reprimanding opposition Communication Director Sammy Awuku, was also sentenced to 10 days.
He has about a week more to serve in the Ho Central prison where he was re-located on Wednesday.
Atubiga told Accra-based Joy FM this morning that he was woken at 2am in the morning of the following day and dragged from his cells and moved to Akuse.
��That was the scariest moment in my life�the first thing that came into my mind was �am I going to be assassinated; are they going to kill me�; I was really scared�.
