Tax Increment Is A Lazy Approach At Generating Resources NPP MP

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Berekum East Constituency Dr. Kwabena Twum-Nuamah is against government's decision to increase taxes to generate revenue. According to him, the attempt to increase taxes is the cheapest way by government to levy the working class. I always say and I will keep saying that, increment of taxes is a very lazy approach to generate resources. Meaning government is using the cheapest means to gain from the hard working people in the country. Ghanaians keep paying tax and now they are tired, he said. Government is expected to rake in some 371 million Ghana cedis from the proposed tax hikes and is currently working to place three separate bills before parliament to secure the necessary legal backing for the increases. The three bills which are the National Stabilization Levy, Customs and Excise, and Special Import bill will soon be laid before parliament for consideration. This move has however been condemned by some economists because they believe it is not the best solution. Speaking on an Accra-based Asempa FM, the NPP MP believes the tax bill if passed, will only inure to the benefit of the rich whiles the less privilege in society bear the brunt. He attributed the root cause of the hardship facing Ghanaians to the mishandling of government funds by the Mahama led administration. Normally, if every government increases taxes, it rather benefits the poor but this tax increment will rather benefit the rich whiles the poor will suffer. Government intends taxing outboard motor and fishing netshad it not been for Parliament, they (NDC government) will also tax fertilizers. These are the difficulties we are facing now in the country.I am so depressed, where are we heading to? Are we really serious as a country, how can you tax people who are already suffering? He rhetorically asked.
