Stop The Mental Torture Of Ken KuranchieHe Is Not A Prisoner Of War

Former Member of Parliament for the Asunafo South Constituency, Hon. Balado Manu, has described the repeated shuffling of Ken Kuranchie, the Managing Editor Daily Searchlight Newspaper who is currently serving a 10 day jail term for criminal contempt, from one prison facility to the other, as mental torture. Ken Kuranchie was slapped with a 10-Day jail term by judges of the Supreme Court last Tuesday following publication of materials the judges deemed contemptuous. He was first sent to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison on Tuesday and later transferred to the Ho Central Prison on Wednesday. However, on Friday, there were reports that he had been moved from Ho Central to the Kete Krachi Prisons in the same Volta region. Officials of the Prison on Friday afternoon prevented some members of the party from seeing him on the grounds that he had exceeded his quota of visitors. But the former MP cannot fathom why the Prison authorities appear to be punishing the newspaper editor for the mere fact that a number of people are turning up at the prison gates to visit him. what is wrong in visiting a friend, a father, a relative in prison? They have visiting hours, dont they? If the people came within the visiting hours and still you dont want them to see him, you are in-charge, should you be tossing him, get up lets go here?.that is what I call, mental torture. According to Hon. Balado Manu, it is incumbent on the prison authorities to treat Ken Kuranchie humanely because he is not a prisoner of war Even if he was, there are international laws that protect him, he added.
