Kasoa Traders Have Two Weeks To Move From Main Road

Traders trading on the old Kasoa market along the Kasoa-Winneba road, supposed to have been ejected in 2006, now have two weeks to move to the new market and a satellite market a few metres away from the main road. This came to light during a surprise visit to the capital of the Awutu Senya East Municipality last Friday by the Minster for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Akwasi Oppon-Fosu to get first hand information on efforts by the assembly to help ease traffic along that important road corridor. The Minister also wanted to assess the situation of the New Municipality which was only carved out of the former Awutu Senya District last year. Explaining the situation to the Minister and press during the Ministers visit, the Municipal Chief Executive Officer of the Awutu Senya East Assembly, Dr Nuhu Adams said his team discovered during interaction with the traders and residents whose properties were demolished in 2006 that they had moved away from the area because they were yet to be compensated. Alhaji Adams said the assembly had now come to an agreement with the traders which will see them move to the new market and the satellite market within two weeks. The satellite market was constructed by the Assembly when it became obvious that residents in the area will still need a market especially for minor purchases. The market which is almost complete consists of a storey structure and a nonstorey larger one. The Minister , Akwasi Oppon-Fosu also took advantage of his visit to interact with representatives of the over 10 organised ethnic groupings in Kasoa. The presence of the groups with origins from various parts of Ghana but also from Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Mali was described by the Minister as a real ECOWAS community with a lot to teach the sub region. The interaction which was very frank and lively came up with other suggestions for reducing congestion in Kasoa such as the need to construct an additional road to ease the pressure on the main Kasoa-Winneba road.Other issues raised were the need to establish clear borders for Kasoa as well as the need to improve the sanitation situation in the Municipality.
