Maverick Politician, Kofi Wayo, has openly stated his opposition to governments proposed tax on farming implements and agricultural machinery, including cutlasses and hoes. He is of the view that it would be prudent for government officials and Members of Parliament to rather cut down on their ostentatious life styles by leading the way in starting to make sacrifices for the nation, instead of adding to the burdens of farmers by way of taxation. The Founder and Leader of the United Renaissance Party (URP) also believes if the penchant for fanciful cars and flying First Class by government officials is smothered, for starters; it would go a long way to save the nation huge revenue. According to him, Our famers suffer a lot. The government ought to know that the price of cutlasses is already beyond the means of the ordinary farmer. The best way out of this, is for the Members of Parliament and government to stop buying Pajeros, Land Cruisers.stop flying First Classthe Minister and their DeputiesMPslets help the ordinary people first, he maintained. The outspoken politician was speaking to the issue of a proposed tax hike by the government and the introduction of new taxes on cutlasses and hoes, which are some of the most familiar farm implements used by farmers in the country. As a philanthropist, who tours the nation donating some of these farm tools to farmers, Chuck Kofi Wayo believes he is in the best position to object to such a policy because it would further increase the hardship of farmers. He admonished the government to rather come up with innovative ideas which would change the dynamics of the economy but certainly not taxes that will burden farmers.
